Welcome to Calda Academy
The handbook for the Calda Academy - 14 days of building a modern mobile app from idea to deployment.
Welcome aboard! Over the next two weeks you will go from a Figma design to a polished, deployable mobile app - shipped with FlutterFlow on top of a Supabase backend that you build yourself.
This handbook is your single source of truth for the program. Bookmark it - you will be referencing it every day.
How the academy is structured
The academy runs from Monday 11.5. to Saturday 23.5. and alternates between two types of days:
- Office days at the Calda office (Grška Ulica 12, BTC, Ljubljana), in the afternoon (16:00-19:00). These are the live sessions where we walk through new concepts together and you build alongside the mentors.
- Home days for async work - finishing assignments, polishing your app, or booking a short online consultation when you get stuck.
The program is split into two halves:
- Backend half (Mon-Thu, week 1) - set up Supabase locally, model the data, and lock down access with auth and RLS. Wrapped up by Assignment #1.
- Frontend half (Fri week 1 - Wed week 2) - build the UI in FlutterFlow, bind it to your backend, and deploy. Anchored by Assignment #2 over the weekend.
The last two home days are reserved for online consultations and final polish, and we close the academy with final presentations on Saturday 23.5. at the office.
The full day-by-day breakdown lives in the Schedule.
What you will build
You will build a daily word-puzzle mobile app - a Connections-style game where players sort 16 words into 4 themed groups, with a new puzzle every day.
What to bring
- Laptop
- Keyboard and mouse if you need one
- A basket ful of good energy
If you don't have a laptop, please message us on Slack and we will try to find a solution.
How to use these docs
These docs follow the structure of the academy itself:
- The Schedule is the map - every day links to its own walkthrough page.
- Each build day page has a Daily Agenda at the top (what we will cover live) followed by the detailed walkthrough you can follow at your own pace during and after the session.
- Assignments and Consultations live in their own sections - check them ahead of time so you know what is coming.
Communication
By now you should have joined the Slack workspace, where you can communicate with the mentors and other candidates. You can find the link in the email you received from Katja.
A few ground rules that will save everyone time:
- Ask early, ask often. If you are stuck for more than ~20 minutes, post in the academy channel - someone is almost certainly online.
- Share screenshots and error messages, not just descriptions. The faster we can see what you see, the faster we can unblock you.
- Use threads for follow-ups so the main channel stays scannable.
